About this Print:
Silhouetted against a timeless Chihuahuan desert landscape riders on last year's Stillwell Ranch - Big Bend Trail Ride, find shade in the mouth of a shelter cave. "I took this picture while shooting the annual Stillwell Ranch trail ride for Texas Highways magazine. We'd started early, but the sky was overcast and the light drab. I took a lot of photos, but wasn't that happy with my images. That afternoon a few breaks of blue started appearing in the sky. Two of the women riders wanted to show me a shelter cave with Indian grinding holes. To my surprise they rode their horses right up the steep slope and into the mouth of the cave. I realized that they would make a nice silhouette when photographed from the back of the cave looking out. Just then a little sun burned through and lit up the hills beyond. I took advantage and quickly got a few shots of the women before the light faded out again." -Laurence Parent
